Primary lymphomas of the colon are rare, comprising less than 1 per cent of all cases of colon cancer. The maximun incidence of a primary colonic lymphoma is present in the 50 to 70 years age group. Surgical excision is the most important treatment for a primary colorectal lymphoma in order to enhance cure rates and prevent major complications such as perforation, hemorrhage, or obstruction. Postoperative combination chemotherapy should be administered to prevent local or systemic relapse. The five year survival rate varied from 20 per cent to 60 per cent. Herein, we present a 25-year-old single male with clinical features of abdominal pain, change in bowel habits, nausea, and abdominal distention. A primary lymphoma of the ascending colon was revealed by a double contrast barium enema, computed tomography of the abdomen and colonoscopy with biopsy. Surgery was performed and chemotherapy was prescribed. We also reviewed the literature concerning primary lymphomas of the colon. |
