摘要
Malignant lesions arising in chronic osteomyelitis are a well known complication, and squamous cell carcinoma is the most common one. Hawkins was the first one to describe this phenomenon in 1833. Fetid or foul odor, aggravated pain, increased discharge and development of ulcer or mass are the four leading presenting complaints. It is important to differentiate pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia from aggressive squamous cell carcinoma. These tumors are usually low grade, well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, and they do metastasize to regional lymph nodes. The best treatment is amputation. Early diagnosis and adequate surgical interventionnusually leads to a good prognosis. Two cases are presented in this paper to bring attention to this complication.
