摘要 |
Hypertriglyceridemia can induce repeated pancreatitis, which may lead to lifethreatening complications that are very difficult to cure. The exact mechanism is unclear, but it is believed to involve increased concentrations of chylomicrons in the blood. We report the case of a man aged 26 years with recurrent pancreatitis related to hypertriglyceridemia.
The cause of his hypertriglyceridemia was diagnosed as familial. He had experienced repeated pancreatitis since he was 18 years old, and the attack frequency in the previous 2 years had increased from once per 3 months to once per 1.5 months. He had received diet modification, medication, and even apheresis, but the effects were not satisfactory. He finally underwent
laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass surgery as a mode of metabolic surgery on August 1, 2011. His triglyceride level decreased rapidly after the surgery. This result indicates that gastric bypass surgery may be applied not only to bariatric surgery but may also be used as a treatment option for patients with intractable hypertriglyceridemia-related pancreatitis. |
