Obturator hernia is rare. This type of hernia presents most commonly in elderly, chronically ill, and thin women. This type of hernia is associated with a high mortality rate. Diagnosis of obturator hernia and subsequent treatment are usually delayed because the signs and symptoms of the condition are non-specific. It often presents a diagnostic dilemma which is usually resolved only by surgery. Computed tomography (CT) plays an important role in the evaluation and management of patients with small bowel obstruction, by establishing the correct diagnosis, defining a possible etiology. We present a case of obturator hernia that was diagnosed correctly by CT before surgery. |
