摘要 |
Eikenella corrodens, a normal oropharyngeal flora, is a potential pathogen in
human bites and head/neck infections. This organism is seldom cultured in
parapneumonic infections in adult or pediatric populations. Only a few case reports
mention pleuropulmonary infections caused by this pathogen. We report a 5-yearold
boy with right-side parapneumonic effusion in which Eikenella corrodens was
cultured. A closed-thorocostomy tube was used initially for drainage, and
necrotizing fasciitis of the chest wall complicated this procedure 2 days later. This
complex condition necessitated extensive surgery, strong antimicrobial therapy and
prolonged hospitalization. Because of the rare occurrence and potential invasiveness
of this disease, we present this case to emphasize the importance of awareness of this
potential pathogen. |
