Gastric papillary adenoma is rarely encountered and is usually an incidental finding
in daily clinical practice. Most patients with such a tumor are asymptomatic, but
should be closely followed up because of the risk of malignant transformation.
Gastric adenoma is usually small, and it is exceptionally rare that a giant gastric
adenoma causes gastric outlet obstruction. We describe an 84-year-old woman who
presented with progressive dysphagia for half a month. An image study revealed a
large gastric tumor measuring 12x10x8 cm in size. Partial gastrectomy was
performed and pathological examination showed a papillary adenoma. In
conclusion, accurate diagnosis and a careful treatment plan are important in the
management of gastric outlet obstruction caused by gastric adenoma.
