摘要
Minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) is a technique-demanding surgery.
Although the procedure has been demonstrated to be feasible and safe for treating
esophageal cancer, its additional benefit in comparison with traditional open surgery
has not been confirmed in terms of its perioperative and oncological results.
Nonetheless, the results of several authors including ours at the National Taiwan
University Hospital have demonstrated that the MIE approach can result in a rather
satisfactory perioperative results once the learning curve has been overcome.
Further studies are required to compare the results of various approaches of MIE
and to examine their impact on the long term survival of patients with esophageal
cancer.
