Objective: Current fashions for obtaining intraoperative images are usually
troublesome, time-consuming, and may require a photographer to stand by. The use
of digital cameras has revolutionized the way for recording photographs and video
images during the operation. We present our unique experiences in the past two
years regarding a simple technique for surgeons in the operating room for creating
photographic records without assistance.
Methods: A digital camera was placed into a sterilized protective housing on the
table, then the surgeons or scrub nurses took pictures with confidence. We have
prepared one camera and three protective housings pre-sterilized in the operating
room, which are ready to use anytime during the operation.
Results: During the past two years, one hundred and fifty open heart procedures
and 85 peripheral vascular surgeries were included in this observation and no
procedure-related infections occurred during this period.
Conclusion: By using this modification, we can take high-quality intraoperative
images without assistance, or losing any valuable intraoperative information
through misdirected or inaccurate shots. In our experience, the small video clips are
practical, and quite useful for communication between physicians and patients. |
