摘要 |
Two adolescent girls, aged 16 and 11 years respectively, each complained of unusual
swelling of the right breast for 8 to 10 months. In both cases, examination revealed a
diffusely enlarged right breast that was about twice as large as the left. The swelling
was widespread but the breast was not tender. In both cases, a sonogram revealed a
huge, well-defined tumor embedded in the lateral portion of the right breast. The
overlying skin was stretched, and dilated veins could be seen on the surface. The
patients were in good general health, and had regular menstrual cycles. Neither girl
had a family history of breast cancer. The mass in each case was removed by wide
excision, and shown by pathologic studies to be a giant juvenile fibroadenoma. We
present these two cases to illustrate the principles of diagnosis and management of
large breast tumors in adolescents, and to emphasize that such tumors can be
removed safely, without significant damage to adjacent normal breast tissue. |
