摘要
The early diagnosis of tuberculous arthritis of the knee is difficult as knees are few
early radiological signs and because it is rare or it is often not thought of this
infection. The authors describe an 80-year-old patient with an unusual presentation
of tuberculous arthritis involving the knee joint mimicking a popliteal cyst. The key
to early diagnosis is a high index of suspicion when a patient has an unusual
presentation of a popliteal mass with knee swelling. The main treatment for
tuberculous arthritis of the knee usually consists of a combination of
antituberculosis drugs to prevent further destruction of the joint. The diagnosis
should be differentiated from pyogenic arthritis of the knee. Early synovial fluid
culture and biopsy in suspected cases provide accurate bacteriological and
pathological diagnosis.
