Esophageal duplication cysts are frequently encountered in the mediastinum and
rarely in the abdomen. We present the case of a 5-year-old boy with a history of
recurrent epigastric pain and occasional vomiting who underwent a successful
laparoscopic resection of an intra-abdominal esophageal duplication cyst. The wellencapsulated
cyst was completely removed without communication with the lumen.
Although computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography both can assist in making
a presumptive preoperative diagnosis, the definitive diagnosis depends on pathologic
examination of the resected specimen. |
