The myocutaneous flap, with its definite blood supply and bulky muscle mass, can tremendously increase the success rate in treatment of radiation wounds. Here, three cases of radiation-induced wounds were treated with regional myocutaneous flaps: two cases were in the neck area; one case, in the sacrum area. These wounds developed 3 to 7 years after radiotherapy, and had persisted from 2 to 42 years. The primary diseases in the three cases were adenocarcinoma of the right parotid gland; unidentified benign lesion of the posterior neck; and uterine cancer. The flaps used for reconstructing these wounds were pectoralis major, trapezius and bilateral gluteus maximus myocutaneous flaps. |
