摘要 |
Photodynamic therapy is a newly-developed method for treating malignant tumors. It uses photodynamic dyes which can be activated by light, a process called “photosensitization”, to produce cytotoxic agents. In this study a photosensitizer, merocyanine 540 (MC540), was applied to breast cancer and colon cancer cells. Variable doses of MC540 were added to BCMl, a breast cancer cell line and to COL205, a colon cancer cell line. Cells were divided into two groups: one group of cells was exposed to fluorescent light; the ot her group was kept in the dark. Treatment with MC540 plus light irradiation resulted in 99% inhibition of breast cancer and colon cancer cell growth; while 52% inhibition was achieved in BCMl and 84 % inhibition in COL205 by MC540 alone without light irradiation. Results presented here show that in vitro photodynamic effect with MC540 is useful in treating breast cancer and colon cancer cells. This approach is worth further investigation. |
