We report a case of heterotopic ossification in an abdominal scar in a 48-year-old
man. The patient presented with epigastric discomfort and a palpable mass in the
mid-abdominal region. He had previously undergone an exploratory laparotomy.
Computed tomography examination suggested the presence of a calcified mass with
a density similar to that of bone. We resected the tumor. Histology confirmed the
presence of mature degenerative cartilage and bony trabeculae. His clinical
symptoms improved after resection. We report this rare entity and review the
literature to enhance the diagnosis and treatment for this rare phenomenon.
