摘要 |
Primary liposarcoma of the mediastinum is a very rare tumor. A comprehensive review of the world’s literature shows only 79 cases to date. Two cases have been diagnosed in the past 15 years at this hospital. All (81 cases) were reviewed and analyzed in terms of recurrence and survival according to sex, tumor location, histology and therapy. The mean age for females was 43.9 years and for males 48.2 years. The mean survival for females was 53.0 months and for males was 16.7 months. Female patients seemed to have better prognosis. Fifty-six percents of the patients had respiratory distress symptoms, including dyspnea, tachypnea and wheezing. The most common tumor location was the posterior mediastinum (45.2%). Welldifferentiated liposarcoma was the most common histological subtype in the medisatinum (45.2%). It may invade locally and recur following excision. Frozen section, even permanent sections, of the resected specimen may be misdiagnosed as lipoma. Therefore, for a huge tumor containing adipose tissue in the mediastinum, wide en bloc excision is the treatment of choice. Regular follow-up with computerized tomography of the chest is mandatory for early detection of recurrence. |
