Intracranial cavernous hemangiomas, initially described as rare lesions developing frequently in supratentorial locations, have been seen with increasing frequency since the advent of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The MR features of cavernous hemangiomas are highly suggestive of the diagnosis, although not pathognomonic. A very rare case of intrasellar cavernous hemangioma, mimicking, clinically and radiologically a pituitary adenoma with apoplexy, is presented. At operation, a highly vascular tumor was removed. The pathology diagnosis was cavernous hemangioma. |
