摘要	Enucleation has been recognized as adequate for patients with smooth muscle tumors of the esophagus. Herein we presented eight patients undergoing operative intervension for such tumors in our hospital from 1984 to 1994. The operative procedures included enucleation in five patients, enucleation with wedge resection of the left lower lobe of the lung in one, esophagectomy and colon interposition in one and partial esophagogastric resection and esophagogastrostomy in the other patient. This operative results were good in all eight patients. Experience suggests that tumor size and extent of tumor involvement should be taken into consideration for a proper surgical management of esophageal smooth muscle tumor.
