摘要	Even as perfect as today's techni-que is,some degree of pulmonary dys-function develops and persists for several weeks in nearly all patients after open heart surgery. In senere cases, the pump lung syndrome is characteristic and manifests itself with-in 24 hours with sudden onset of in tense dyspnea, fever, cyanosis and sometimes hypotension and x-ray evid-ence of lung lesions. The post mortemfindings of the lung lesions are alveolarcollapse with the interstitial hemorrh-age. The pump lung is now still a major cause of mortality in open heart surgery,and whenever it develops, tre-quently met with but unfortunately the pathogenesis of the lung lesions is not well understood up to now.
