摘要
Kirschner wire is commonly used for bone transfixation. Its breakage and subsequent migration sometimes causes lethal complications if it is pro-ximal to a vital structure. Herein a case is reported of a broken Kirschner wire migrating from the left clavicle to adjacent lung parenchyma. Removal of it by thoracotomy was undertaken and the postoperative course was smooth. Choice of suitable prosthesis, good implantation technique, and removal as soon as possible can decrease the possibility of wire breakage or migration. Avoidance of overexercise at the fixation site and periodic X-ray follow-up are also important to prevent this occurrence. Should this complication occur, surgical removal is indicated for all patients. Utilization of this wire for transfixation near the t thoracic cavity is not recommended unless there is a strong indication.
