摘要
Fracture of the femur is a major traumatic injury occuring as a result of extreme violence prediseposing to shock and frequently associated with other major injuries. The difficulties in conservarive treatment of this fracture have led to wide-spread attempts at open reducrion and internal fixation among the surgeons.
The purpose of this study is to analyse the results of open reductions and interanl fixation in fercute limited to the shaft of the femur. whit the exception of 6 cases under the age of sixteen years, treated by internal fixation because of the failure of treat-ment by traction. Among the subjects 87 per cent were male and 13 per cent were female. Their agea ranged from 13 years to 72 years. The age incidence by decade is shown in Table 1. There were 179 closed fractures and 18 open fractures. Four patients sustained bilateral fractures abd 3 segmental fractures.
