摘要 |
A 48-year-old male was admitted with the chief complaint over a one-day period of nausea, vomiting and abdominal fullness. He had suffered from intermittent abdominal abdominal cramping pain off and on for one year. Hospitalized in two different places for the same symptoms, there was still no definite diagnosis. This time, the symptoms were relieved by nasogastric tube decompression and fluid supply. Serial radiological examinations were performed including computed tomographic scan of abdomen, upper gas-trointestinal series and hypotonic duodenogram. Internal paraduodenal herniation was suspected, and operative findings confirmed that diagnosis.
This case is reported to emphasize that internal herniation must be
considered in patients with acute cramping abdominal pain. The time of
operation should not be delayed simply to obtain an accurate preoperative
diagnosis if the symptoms and signs are not relieved by conservative
treatment. |
