摘要
A 23-year-old male who had been involved in a motor vehicle accident about four years ago continued to have pain in the anterior chest, exertional dyspnea, and deformity of sternum for four years following the aceident. Repeat roentgenograms confirmed a fracture of the upper third of the sternal body with non-union. And an open reduction and fixation was performed. An autologous bone fragment was used as a bridge between both sides of the fracture with two screws placed on each side. His symptoms improved after operation and he could then tolerate normal activities. At the patient's four-month evaluation, the sternum appeared to be healed with a solid bony union between the fracture fragments. Traumatic fracture of the sternum with non-union is an exceedingly rare condition. We found this procedure to be treatment for this problem.
