摘要
This article reports on total elbow replacement in patients with severe joint
destruction and limited joint motion and patients who failed to respond to a conservative method. From January 1994 to March 1996, Souter-Strathclyde nonconstrained total elbow prosthesis was applied to 8 patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis. After an average follow-up period of 26 months, pain free or only mild pain in the elbows was noted, along with an increased flexion-extension arc of 23 degrees on average. No instability was observed during the final follow-up. One patient's elbow was deeply infected which was subsequently controlled after debridement with adequate antibiotics. Another patient developed pronator syndrome following the arthroplasty. The symptoms of median nerve compression subsided after neurolysis at the elbow. No dislocation was found in this small series.
