In the present study, twelve cases of colorectal cancers were successfully analyzed by cytogenetics using short-term culture and trypsin-Giemsa banding. The karyotypes of tumors were divided into two groups based on their modal number, such that one group belonged to the near-hypertri-ploid (modal number>55) while the other belong to near-diploid (modal number <55) pattern. Each of these karyotype showed multiple aberrations, wherein extra gains of #7, #8, #9, #13, #21 and loss of #18 were common numerical changes. Three recurrent structural abnormalities were: t (5;12;10) (q15:q11;p15), i (13q) and der (19) t (19;2) (q13;?). These marker chromosomes were present in about 75%, 42% and 67% of the tumors, respectively. The marker chromosomes in the cell lines of cases 4 and 7 were consistent with primary tumors, especially in t (5;12;10) (q15;q11;p15) and der (19) t (19:?) (q13;?). The present results of chromosomal changes and their progression hence indicate that these structural alterations
are possibly the specifie markers of colorectal cancers in Chinese patients. |
