摘要
Naprapathy manipulation used in treatment of neck pain is very popular, but naprapathy manipulation induced cervical epidural hematoma has never been reported in the literature. A spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) occurred in the cervical spinal canal after naprapathy therapy in a 73-year-old man who had a history of odontoid fracture and chronic atlanto-axial subluxation. The patient presented with severe neck pain and myelopathic syndrome that had developed during the naprapathy manipulation. Emer- gency magnetic resonance imagining revealed an acute epidural hematoma extending ventrally from C-2 to C-3. After 3 weeks of conservative treat-ment, full urinary bladder sphincter control was restored and the patient could ambulate freely with the aid of an aluminum walker. There were no serious sequela related to the SEH. We conclude that spinal naprapathy manipulation is not without risks and may result in serious morbidity. Conservative treatment of SEH may be appropriate in cases where only a short segment is involved and there is continuous neurological recovery.
