A 58-year-old uremic man with regular hemodialysis presented with intermittent gross hematuria and right flank pain lasting for one month. Imaging studies revealed a right renal mass with tumor thrombi in the renal vein. Radical nephrectomy was performed and the histopathology revealed a malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Although malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is the most common type of malignancy originating from soft tissues, often occuring in the proximal side of the limbs, it rarely originates in the kidney, particularly in a uremic patient. Only twenty cases of primary renal MFH have been reported in the previous English literature, but none were uremic. Herein, we report this case and discuss the clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment aspects of this rare disease entity. |
