Microcystic adenoma of pancreas is a rare benign neoplasm with peculiar
pathologic characteristics. A 61-year-old man was hospitalized for work up of a
hypervascular tumor in the body of the pancreas. A 71-year-old woman was
admitted to the hospital complaining of abdominal distension. A hypervascular
tumor at the pancreatic tail was found incidentally. Distal pancreatectomy and
splenectomy were performed in both patients for complete resection of the lesions. Both histologic diagnoses were microcystic adenomas. Prognosis was good for both patients. The literature on this topic was also reviewed. Complete excision is the treatment of choice for all cystadenomas of the pancreas. However, conservative management seems advisable for patients who are not likely to withstand rigorous surgery as the microcystic adenoma is generally regarded as benign.
