A case of splenic hemangiopericytoma of a 7-year-old boy is described herein. He visited to our hospital because of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and fever for two days. An abdominal ultrasonogram disclosed a tumor about 3X3 cm in the spleen. Computed tomographic abdominal scan revealed this splenic tumor was enhanced by intravenous injuction of Teledrix, and no other intraabdominal lesion could be found. Lower gastrointestinal study and gallium scan for tumor survry were normal. Laboratory studies were normal. Under the diagnosis of splenic tumor, the patient underwent splenectomy and histopathological examination of the mass revealed hemangiopericytoma. The postoperative revovery was unevenful. Hemangiopericytoma of the spleen is extremely rare, with only 4 cases, including our owen, having been reported in the world literature. This kind of bengin splenic tumor is thought to originate from the pericytes of Zimmermann. The clinical and pathological features of cases previously reported ar also reviewed following the presentation of this case. |
