Pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis are well understood nowadays. However, the information on infection to thehand without other systemic symptoms is still rare. Besides, it is really a time-consuming work for the treatment of infection of the hand by traditional surgical debridement and oral antituberculosis drugs (continuously at least for 9 months). Herein, we present a rare case of tuberculosis of the hand with the triad characteristics of insidious onset, chronic growth, and delayed diagnosis. We have developed a new method of continuous intra-arterial pump injection of ciprofloxacin for weeks preoperatively to get a palliative shrinkage of the tumor size. Then, curativeexcision is done and ciprofloxacin is administered orally for 2 months. So far, the hand functions of this patient have revovered excellently and there is no evidence of recurrence within one year after operation. |
