Orbital intraosseous hemangiomas (OIHs) are rare benign lesions and few cases have
been reported in the literature. They generally appear as solitary lesions in patients
in the 4th or 5th decade of life. However, they can be present with pain, proptosis,
restricted ocular motility, visual impairment, globe displacement or palpable bony
mass. Some symptomatic cases are confused with malignancies. We report a 71-yearold
man who had a 7-year history of progressive swelling in the left lateral brow
area. Computed tomography showed a bony lesion with internal coarsened trabeculae
and multifocal lytic areas. The lesion was thought to be fibrous dysplasia,
and the patient underwent total excision of the tumor with primary reconstruction of
the defect. Histopathologically, the surgical specimen showed cavernous hemangioma. |
