摘要
Colonic ameboma, most often found in the cecum, is a rare consequence of invasive
amebiasis and can be easily misdiagnosed as colon cancer if investigated only with
imaging studies or even colonoscopy. Herein, we present an extremely rare case of
rectal ameboma associated with amebic liver abscess, which can only be distinguished
with great care from rectal cancer with liver metastasis. Colonoscopic biopsy is a prerequisite
for correct diagnosis. Medical management is usually sufficient unless complications
occur, when surgical intervention should be considered.
