摘要 |
Primary small bowel volvulus is rare in adults and is associated with a high mortality
rate, since it often results in bowel ischemia or infarction. The primary presenting
symptom is abdominal pain, and there is no single specific diagnostic clinical, laboratory
or radiological abnormality. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment, and it is
required urgently if patient s peritoneal signs are positive. We present the case of a
65-year-old male who suffered from intermittent, recurring abdominal pain over
recent years. Small bowel volvulus was diagnosed intraoperatively. Surgeons need to
suspect primary small bowel volvulus if the patient presents with atypical intestinal
obstruction. Early diagnosis and early surgical intervention are important for managing
this special form of mechanical intestinal obstruction. |
