摘要 |
The results of treatment with protease inhibitors for acute pancreatitis are conflicting. Although much work has focused on this special treatment modality, early investigations were not conclusive. The systemic inflammatory response that follows acute pancreatitis is a major concern in its pathophysiology. Among numerous candidate molecules, protease-protease inhibitor imbalance in the progression of acute pancreatitis is considered important in the trigger events within the human body. Recent work by the authors and other investigators has shown that small molecular-weight protease inhibitors are effective in the treatment of acute pancreatitis in the laboratory and in the clinical setting, especially in severe cases with organ dysfunctions. The new treatment protocols have opened a way to understanding the very aspects of the mechanism that underlies this complex disease. More work, however, is still needed for the complete elucidation of the effects protease inhibitors in acute pancreatitis. |
